Encounter in the Gardens 2018 / Rendez-vous aux jardins 2018

As part of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018, upon invitation of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of France, the Republic of Croatia participates for the first time, together with other European countries, in the 2018 Encounter in the Gardens and organises suitable programmes in four gardens / parks. The programmes in the gardens / parks of Opatija, Lipik, Zaprešić and Sisak, organised by Conservation Departments in Rijeka, Požega, Zagreb and Sisak in cooperation with partners, became part of a joint event in the period from 1 to 3 June 2018, uniting over 3000 gardens throughout Europe under the slogan of Europe of Gardens.
We invite citizens to join and participate in organised professional and educational tours aimed at encouraging them to pay more attention to the space around them, to the close connection between people and nature and to enjoy the beauty of designed spaces. Also, we call upon them to inform themselves, on this occasion, about the importance of raising awareness about the protection and preservation of this kind of cultural heritage, especially in children and young people, and about the importance of restoration of gardens as well as the necessity of professional education and transfer of knowledge.
A workshop will be held in the Villa Angiolina Park in Opatija on 1 June 2018 at 9 o’clock, to create a recognizable Opatija umbrella, raincoat or rain boots for children of the "Rikard Katalinić Jeretov" Primary school from Opatija, followed by a symposium at 10 o'clock on "How to successfully maintain and use the Angiolina Park and save it for the future?”. A walk will be organised on Saturday, 2 June 2018 at 10 o’clock for the visitors of the Angiolina Park in the company of Head of maintenance of horticultural areas in the city company “Parkovi Opatija”, Hermina Brajković, Mr. Eng. Hort. and landscape architect Mr. Sc. Dobrila Kraljić.
In the health resort gardens in Lipik, a lecture will be held on 1 June 2018 at 14:30 h on the historic development of the gardens and health resort.
The history of development of the gardens Novi dvori zaprešićki will be presented in a lecture in the gardens threshing facility on 2 June 2018 at 10 o’clock on „The history of formation of the estate and gardens Novi dvori zaprešićki in the context of 19th century tendencies“, followed by a presentation of the project of the gardens design, after which a tour of the gardens with a professional guide is foreseen.
In the Ironworks Sculpture Park in Caprag in Sisak created in the framework of the Sisak Ironworks Art Colony, a tour will be organised for pre-school and school children on Friday, 1 June 2018 at 10 o'clock to familiarise with the sculptures, flora and fauna, followed by a workshop, as well as the Open Door Day of the Garden of Senses of Sisak Novi kindergarten. The programme will continue on Saturday 2 June 2018 at 10 o’clock with a presentation of art works created in the workshops and a professional tour through the Sculpture Park for the general public to familiarise with fauna and flora biological diversities in urban areas.
