International Conference ''Underwater Cultural Heritage in Europe today'' (Zadar, 25-26 October 2018)
On the occasion of the European Year of Cultural Heritage the International Conference on Underwater Cultural Heritage of the EU and Europe will be organized at the International Centre for Underwater Archeology - UNESCO Cathegory II Centre under the title ''Underwater Cultural Heritage in Europe today'' in October 2018 in Zadar.
The main objectives of the EYCH which suit the best the concept of this conference are to promote sustainable cultural tourism, to develop objective standards for interventions in the historical environment and heritage sites, to fight against illicit trafficking in cultural assests and to manage the threats to which the cultural heritage is exposed.
The International Centre for Underwater Archeology will organize 2 days expert conference:
- the expert meeting will focus on the underwater cultural heritage and diving historic tourism; the arrival of ten speakers and twenty archeologists, historians, professionals divers from EU and eastern Europe are expected;
- the international conference devoted to the issues of the implementation of the UNESCO’s 2001 Convention on the Protection of Underwater Heritage in the EU countries and other European countries; certain national laws and pre-existing international law do not comprehensively protect underwater cultural heritage - that’s why the experiences of the countries that have applied the UNESCO’s Convention and those that are not yet are important; representatives of the ministries of culture of ten EU countries are expected to attend this meeting.
The aim of the Conference is to identify key current issues and challenges and to explore how these issues could be addressed and encourage people to explore Europe’s rich and diverse cultural heritage.
